One of the most influential and colourful characters in Irish history was Brian Boru.

In the 10th century Brian Boru went on to become High King of Ireland and ruled from his seat in Kincora, Killaloe, Co. Clare. Though he died in 1014 after a vigorous victory over the Vikings in the Battle of Clontarf his descendants went on to become one of the greatest Gaelic Clans in Ireland’s history. The O’Brien Clan.

There are glimpses into this rich past evident all throughout County Clare. This is an informative map that traces the significant buildings and sites of The O’Brien’s Clan. Many of the sites are on our doorstep including Bunratty Castle, Dromoland Castle, O’Brien’s Tower, St. Brigids Well, Ballinalacken Castle, and Doonbeg Castle.
